What is the minimum playing time for a player?
A player must play on either the offensive or the defensive team for each half, therefore every player starts.

Who is eligible to receive a pass?
Everyone is eligible to receive a pass, this helps all players to be more involved.

How do you get a first down?
There are four 20-yard zones marked on the 80-yard field and once the ball is advanced from one zone into the next zone the team is awarded a first down.

Are there fumbles in flag football?
There are no fumbles in flag football, any time the ball is fumbled and makes contact with the ground it is considered a dead ball. Fumbles are not allowed in flag football to avoid possible injury.

Is blitzing permitted?
No blitzing is permitted in this league.

How many players can rush on defense?
Only three can rush the nose guard and the defensive ends.

Are coaches permitted on the field at any time?
Yes, a maximum of 2 coaches per team for Jr./Inter. and 1 coach for the senior division are permitted on the field at all times. However, they must be located 10 yds behind the quarterback or the saftey at the start of the play.

Are practices mandatory?
Yes, if a player cannot make a practice then he/she must contact the coach. If a minimum of 4 practices are not made before the first game the player will not be permitted to play. If during the season a player does not make practices the player may see restricted playing time.

Is there contact in flag football?
Yes, although there are rules to reduce the possible contact that can occur, contact is part of the gamewhen players are blocking or being blocked, or when a defensive player is attempting to pull the flag of a ball carrier.

Is tackling permitted?
No tackling is permitted.

What type of blocking is permitted?
All blocking must be above the waist and below the neck. Blockers must hold their hands in at their chest.

Are there kick-offs in flag football?
No, the ball is placed in the middle of the field.

Are mouthpieces provided?
Yes, the league encourages the players to use mouthpieces, therefore, each player will be given 1 mouthpiece for the season.

What equipment is used?
The players are given a football jersey to use for the season and a set of flags is issued to the players by the coaches at each game. The players are permitted to use cleats. The players are NOT permitted to use any other equipment such as pads, helmets and gloves.

What size football is used?
The league uses a Standard Junior Size rubber football.

How often do they practice?
Before the season begins the teams are allowed a maximum of 2 practices a week, with one practice on a weekday and one on the weekend. Both practices will be limited to 2 hours each. Once the season begins only 2 practices a week will be allowed, with one 2 hour practice during the week and a one hour practice immediately prior to the team’s scheduled game time.

Are there any extra points in flag football?
Yes, extra points can be scored after a touchdown by either running the ball into the end zone for 1 point or passing the ball into the end zone for 2 points.

What type of stance is permitted?
No three-point stances are permitted. The only stance that can be used is where the player starts with his hands on his knees.

Does the league provide trophies?
Yes, the league does provide trophies for all of the players. All trophies are the same therefore no trophies are presented based on end of year standings.

Do the kids get to keep their jerseys?
No, the players must turn in their jerseys at the end of the last game.

How do I know if the Fields are closed due to rain?
We abide by the Pleasanton Weather line at 925-931-5360. During inclement weather the amount of incoming phone calls may overload the system which will result in a message indicating the phone number has been disconnected. Please continue try again as this phone number is correct.

How do I become a coach?
Go to sPortability (when you sign up your child for participation) and sign yourself up as a head coach or assistant coach. The league is only as good as the volunteer participation.

Are assistant coaches required to sign up officially?
Yes – all coaches, including assistant coaches, are required to sign up through sPortability as a coach.

When is evaluation day?
Evaluation day occurs at the end of May of in early June of each year.

Are coaches’ players required to attend the evaluation day?
Yes - The attendance and participation in the evaluation day significantly benefits the league in creating equal teams. All players need to plan on attending. Non- attendance in evaluation day, of any player, will result in that player receiving a high performance rating for team roster selection purposes.

When will I be contacted by my players coach?
You should be contacted by your coach prior to the first week of practice. The annual schedule of events, including the first week of practice, is included in this annual schedule which is posted on the PJFL website.

How Can I get a refund?
All refunds are subject to a non-refundable administrative fee ($30) for any withdrawals regardless of the date of your withdrawal.

Non-medical - 50% refund*
Medical - Full Refund*

After August 15th:
